NB. Sophia (see Baptism) was in fact the daughter of William Shepper and Sarah Ann Ward, who was herself the daughter of Michael and Sophia Ward and sister of Frederick Ward. Sophia was living with her half-brother, John Charles Garbutt (see John's Marriage), at Cooyal at the time of her own marriage, and evidently adopted his paternity as her own (except that she incorrectly called his father Charles instead of John).
