I have recently been forwarded some emails containing a transcription of “Harriet Ward's death certificate" with associated correspondence about her parentage. One email stated that Fred Ward was clearly not the son of Michael and Sophia Ward (despite the irrefutable evidence shown in Who were Frederick Ward’s parents? and Was Frederick Ward the son of his “sister”?), and that this certificate helps clarify who his parents really were.
As the certificate does nothing of the sort, I decided that today’s blog would explain what this document actually is – it’s not a death certificate – and what it tells us.
