Empty Grave - The Thunderbolt Mystery

13/10/2011

Exciting news. Shayne Cantly of Evolution Studios has been working on a docu-drama called Empty Grave: The Thunderbolt Mystery  – ooooh!! – and his website is now up and running (see Empty Grave). He is intending to launch the DVD at the Thunderbolt Festival at Uralla on 29 October 2011 so you can purchase copies there or via his website. Hopefully it will screen on TV in the next few months.
Dubbed the "docu-drama that explores both sides of the story", it includes talking heads, dramatic re-enactments and other exciting features, and allows you, the viewer, to determine the truth for yourself. Whose body lies in Thunderbolt's Uralla grave? Or is the grave empty...?

Yes I am looking forward to this film, as Barry Sinclair was interviewed too, and so was I. But you make one big mistake,
Scourge of the Ranges, was not intended as a history lesson. It is fictional but used Barry's family history as a guide.

Fictional? Perhaps you haven't seen Barry Sinclair's interview with the Armidale Express printed on 11 Dec 2009 after Thunderbolt: Scourge of the Ranges was published:
‘Using Mr Sinclair's vast knowledge of Thunderbolt, his great-great-uncle, the book reveals information never published before. “It's written as a novel but all the information in it is based on facts,” Mr Sinclair said. “Things like conversations have obviously been created by the author, but all the events are based on facts." ’ These claims are still found on Sinclair's website today.
Or what about "Barry Sinclair's Story on Captain Thunderbolt" published in the Catholica Forum on 20 Dec 2009 (www.catholica.com.au): "I have all the research material available, in my private records, to prove what is written in this book," said Sinclair. This claim is also still to be found on his website.
And what about Greg Hamilton's interview with The Advocate (Coffs Coast) published on 27 Nov 2009: "Mr Hamilton said that the truth is uncovered in the book."
Isn't it rather odd then that you (as Sinclair's mouthpiece?) are now saying that Sinclair and Hamilton's book "was not intended as a history lesson" and that "it is fictional"?
Since "fictional" means "imaginary" are you telling all the people who paid good money for the book believing the authors' very public claims that it was telling the true story of Fred Ward's life and death (albeit with fictionalised dialogue) that, in fact, all of its claims are merely the product of the authors' imaginations?
